Black Hole Event Horizon

A collapsing star creating a black hole in space...

Case and other news

I had taken this photo just after getting the side lights connected and working, I realize that the CDRW is 'beige' and looks out of place, but for the price at the time that I bought it I couldn't pass it up. That and it's a 52x32x52.
The new system will have a DVD-rw 16x, and it will be BLUE to match the BLUE case. (photos of that case when I buy more battery's for the camera). I have looked at a lot of motherboards for the new case, and I think my wife will hire a hitman if I get what I really want. So I will probably settle for what I can afford again...
I've started some new art projects, working in the Gimp under FC4.
I should have some ready for upload within a few days. One particular that I am working on is a spacescape with a 'tear' in the fabric of space/time...should be interesting if I get all of the 'scripts' the way I want them. did some test renders to see, how differant settings work, and I have liked the results so far.
One another note, I'm not seeing a lot of comments on my blog, so I may need to advertize it better... Agh think that shouldn't be a big issue... :)

The Gimp under Fedora Core 4

The Gimp 2.2.8
Linux - Fedora Core 4 (2.6.11-1.1369 Kernel)
KDE 3.4

This is how I 'create' my art, and how I relax. Just a shot so that everyone can see that FC4 isn't that much differant (in looks and style) than other Linux Distro's and looks amazingly like Mandrake 10.0 (although everything seems to be a newer version/build and most have a few extra features and less 'bugs')

Fedora Core 4 and the Siath

This is out of order but, I am a bit excited... I have had a Dual Boot (two operating systems on 1 computer) for a while, but have not been able to get online with Fedora Core 4 due to 'ISP' compatibility issues, but with the help of my AWESOME ISP tech staff, I am typing todays blog with Fedora Core 4.
What does this mean for my readers. This means MORE ART, more post more EVERYTHING.

Yah.

Now this post was supposed to be about my operating system past and present...

I first learned about computing in High School using an Apple II, and then somewhere in the middle of the year the school upgraded the outdated hardware with IBM PCII's, this was much better, still ran DOS, and it wasn't MS's DOS, it was DR. Dos...not that it was really any better.
As I didn't learn anything, I dabble on my own for a while with freinds computers..
Played PONG, played chess, played some other 2d sidescrolling 2 player psp (this is Person to Person - ie dial there phone and connect to their computer and play games...)
A few years later I bought a 386sx with a whooping 6mb of ram..wow. Win95a... it crashed and burned...so I sold the 'hardware' off...
Many years after that disapointment I bought a PIII@450MHz, 64mb ram, 8.5GB HDD, 3DFX Voodoo 3 3000 Video, and Aureal Vortex a3d sound, a cheap modem and I was off and running...to the store for memory..lol. Upgraded the memory (that currently has 174mb), overclocked from 450MHz to 504MHz, and have added new HDD after a brutal hdd failure. (added a 30GB)
This computer runs Mandrake Linux 10.0 and is incredibly STABLE. up and running for 7 months (and that is now my youngest daughters primary system.)
Well, I needed something better for graphics and ran accross a TTX 20" monitor with 1600x1200 resolution at 60Hz. So, now I have a big ass monitor...woohoo...

I had been promised a new computer, but Finances dictated differantly, so I bought and assembled the various items to have my current computer.

I actually found the motherboard/powersupply first.. A Compaq Dual PIII server motherboard and 'required' powersupply, then I bought a red and black 'gamer' case, nVidia GeForce 2 MX/MMX 400 64mb vid Card, Aureal Vortex A3d Audio (plus the onboard audio Intel 82801AA AC'97 Sound), 60GB HDD (Windows ME resides there) and a 30GB HDD (Fedora Core 4 Resides there) onboard LAN 10/100 Ethernet, onboard SCSI controller ( currently not in use as I don't have any SCSI drives yet)

Windows ME sucks, I know it, you know it, and MicroSoft KNOWS it., but it's what I have for Windows and it'll let me play my games.
Fedora Core 4 ROCKS ('cept that whole pain in the rear to get online thing) but otherwise it ROCKS.
Games, OpenOffice, the Gimp, and so much more COME WITH IT> all inclusive basically, and there are a ton of downloadable upgrades and games and programs for FC4.

Anyway, off to do other things.

History of the Siath Continued again...

(Picture is A Fractal edited into lightning, added cloud effects, a dark backdrop, and lettering)
Amarillo, TX cont.
I ran across, some 'less than proper' people here and sought to amass a small fortune, doing less than honorable deeds. This was probably the most dangerous time in my life. I opted out, walked away from it all (*by all I mean everything that I owned except for the clothes on my back.)
I found a job, worked it for a while, and when the company relocated to Austin, TX I followed.
I miss Austin. It's one of those cities that has a little of everything, but not too much of anything.
The company moved again to Orlando, FL and I went to Orlando with it. This was somewhat of a mistake, but I think it has worked out for the best.
I worked some interesting places. Met my future bride, and even took a vacation to Fort Worth, TX with her so that she could meet Mr. and Mrs. Lovelace. (as a side note I failed to state clearly in the last blog, that the Mrs. Lovelace that had adopted me had died in Alvarado, before I went to Boy's Ranch - This Mrs. Lovelace is the 'stepmom' )
Three years later we had a most beautiful wedding that my bride and I planned together with the cooking and setup help of close freinds and relatives. (I'll scan and post a couple of nice pics later)
A year and a day later our oldest daughter was born.
A couple of years after that our youngest daughter was born.
We will not have anymore as those two nearly incapacitated my wife.
My oldest is now 12 and my youngest is 9.
I should mention to avoid the shock of those that are less 'learned' that my wife is black and I am white, our daughters have a nice perfect tan.

History of the Siath Continued

After the ride up the coast I ended up in Sacramento, CA - nice place, but I didn't want to live there...

So, I rode across to Nevada, crossing some huge gorge(?sp) and ended up in Reno, NV.
Only place I've been that you can get frostbite at night and sunburned during the day..amazing town full of trouble, and I hung out with plenty of trouble in this place.

I ran across a bit of luck, in that one of my local acqaintances was from Amarillo, TX and had a Greyhound ticket, exchanges made, and I'm headed for Amarillo, TX - with thoughts of what to do once I got there...
I thought I'd just get a job, and see what I could see....

More soon...

History of the Siath

The Siath was born in San Antonio, Texas way back in 1968... my mother had some issues with drugs and prostitution, and at age the age of two the Siath was left alone...for days.
From reports and stories told, a neighbor heard the Siath throwing the most terrible fit. (I was hungry, and could not open the can to get the food out *this is my first memory).
Police and Social Services came and took the Siath away. I was transfered to Fort Worth Juv. Just. Div. in order to placed with a foster family faster.
Enter, Mr. and Mrs. Roundtree - Foster Grandparents extrodinare. The Siath loved the Roundtrees and refered to them as 'Mammy and Pappy'...Pappy was retired from the Tarrent County Refuse Center and Mammy hadn't worked as far as the Siath knew.
Enter Mr. and Mrs. Lovelace - and my other natural brothers. (before this the Siath thought he was an 'only child' agh well.)
Thrust into a semi abusive adoptive family things rolled along on the West Side of Fort Worth.
Until one of my natural brothers thought that he could take my adoptive parents in the court of law (*good idea bad idea... THIS WAS A VERY BAD IDEA) my adoptive parents had awards from Fort Worth and Tarrent County for their 'excellent' work with wayward children...
He went to Cal Farley's Boy's Ranch (*more on that place shortly)
Mrs. Lovelace had never been well, she had been born with heart problems and somehow knew her time on earth was growing short (could be that she had suffered her 6th heart attack.)
She wanted to move out of the city and into the country... hmm the Siath didn't like this idea...
So, minus one to Boy's Ranch, minus one to the USN, we moved to Alvarado, TX....ok this is a point to make a point, kids need normalicy, if your a parent and suddenly want to move DONT, CHILDREN SUFFER when you do things like that. I moved from the West Side of FORT WORTH, part of the largest metroplex in the US to a bunghole on the Texas highway system...during my Junior high years...
Alvarado sucked, I was in trouble DAY 1, and stayed in trouble the intire time I lived there...
Needless to say I wanted a way out...so I opted to go live at Boy's Ranch with one of my natural brothers.
I refer to the time at Boy's Ranch as 1031 days of Hell, but hey I graduated and that wasn't gonna happen in Alvarado.
While at Boy's Ranch I learned two skills - Arch. Drafting and Custodial.
I was accepted to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX...and did everything possible to fund this.. however 31 Grant and loan applications later, I still had no funds for college....so I took the route followed by most of my Adoptive family and joined the Navy...
So, I go to boot camp down in San Diego, CA - 5 weeks later I'm sitting in a hotel room with both knees the size of large grapefruits..so much for getting to college eh?
$600 cash to my name and nothing planned for my so called life...
I bought a used 12 speed, and a new Walkman and proceeded to ride up the coast of California..let the adventure begin.

Logo Design

http://www.flickr.com/photos/siathlinux/34365227/in/photostream/

A Logo I created for a forum site...
Didn't take that long once the Gimp would stay stable... that seems to be a Gimp under Windows issue.. will have to look for a patch or something to fix that.

The site that this is for is offline til Tuesday, but I'll post a link to it.

s2.phpbbforfree.com/forums/kryiansolacesta.html

Comments Welcomed on this, As I plan to make other Logos for other sites/companies/etc.

Post of the Siath

Recently changed from posting on deviantART to posting on flickr. Well dA has a journal and flickr, well it doesn't, so I've started this blog in order to replace the dA journal writing...

Typically will post all types of neat things with my journal, and link to pics that I found interesting or at the least funny.

I hope that readers will find my blogs interesting, informative and fun.
